About MHK
Mile High Kids and Community Development, Inc. (MHK) is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering underserved communities in Virginia Beach, VA, and the Northern Neck region. Our mission is to prepare children and families for success by providing high-quality early childhood education, family support services, and community engagement programs tailored to the unique needs of economically disadvantaged populations.
MHK operates five locations with twelve classrooms in Virginia Beach and five locations with six classrooms in the Northern Neck, serving over 1,000 families annually. We address systemic challenges like poverty, food insecurity, and lack of educational resources, creating a foundation for stable, successful futures.
Through education, financial literacy, family engagement, and comprehensive support, MHK creates a nurturing environment where children thrive and families flourish. We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential, regardless of their circumstances. We are committed to creating a brighter future for our communities, one child and one family at a time.

What we Offer
- Comprehensive Support: Mile High Kids goes beyond just education, providing families with comprehensive support to address their unique needs. Food pantries and clothes closets ensure that basic necessities are met, while initiatives like Family STEAM Day and the Fatherhood Initiative promote educational and social growth for all family members.
- Inclusive Services: We believe in creating a truly inclusive environment, prioritizing families facing homelessness, disabilities, or financial hardship. MHK is committed to ensuring that all children, regardless of their circumstances, receive the high-quality care and support they deserve to thrive.
- MHK Farmers Market: Combat food insecurity by distributing fresh produce and essential groceries to underserved families. Through educational materials, we promote healthy eating habits and sustainability practices.

Our goal is to serve 1,000 families annually while minimizing our environmental footprint by optimizing delivery routes.
- Community Garden: Our community garden provides hands-on learning experiences in sustainable gardening techniques.Participants cultivate their own food, fostering self-sufficiency and environmental stewardship. We aim to educate 200 community members annually on sustainable gardening practices.
- Cleanup & Recycling Projects: Mile High Kids engages families in environmental clean-up activities to enhance community aesthetics and promote eco-awareness. Participants creatively repurpose recycled materials to create STEM and art projects, blending environmental education with artistic expression. We aim to engage 100 families annually and complete 10 environmental projects.
